I have so many good memories of Mike Sabo, who I affectionately called Tio since I was a longtime friend of his neice, Nikki. My first memory is even before I met him, I liked him. He sent tins of peanut brittle to Nikki at college which she shared with us. His generosity continued as he often took Nikki and I to lovely dinners out in Seattle. However, my favorite memory of Tio is sitting around his apartment, eating his homecooked Hamburger Soup, drinking red wine, and talking about politics. He was so intelligent, passionate and well-informed, that it made for lively discussions. He was so fun even when he teased Nikki and I about being airheaded Valley-girls. He enjoyed getting us riled up and we all sure laughed a lot. Best wishes, Tio, you will be missed. Heidi.

Uncle mike was such a funny man with such a sense of humor.. interanl humor to him i must say at times.

He always thought of others first.
He had a warm and kind heart and will not be forgotten.

I am certain the fatigue he was feeling is now gone and he is at peace.

I have no doubt there was and is a higher spirit that Mike is with and he is looking down at all of us.

Uncle Mike, a.k.a. "Tio",
My Junior year of college was spent up in Seattle where my Uncle Mike hooked me up with a fabulous design internship. That summer his name transformed from "Tio Miquel" to a contemporary "Tio". It stuck. Tio was our connection. I returned back to Seattle after I graduated and we shared many great memories in that rainy city. He loved his "power walks" and was always up for a great decadent meal or his homemade Hamburger soup followed by some Oregon winery of the month. He loved to tease and poke fun of politics and life, and always had a cheery side with a sharp sense of humor. I miss you Tio!

I worked at First Hill Plaza from 1989 to 1997 where I was fortunate enough to get to know "Mr. Sabo (5B)." I would vacuum the floors of the building and every so often, Mr. Sabo would poke his head out and ask me to run the vacuum around his condo a little bit. It was hard to navigate around his "filing system" but he seemed to always know where everything was.

Because of his sage advice I bought my first no-load stocks and IRAs when I got married.

In recent years I worked for a company in Pioneer Square where I got to stop in and talk politics and business with him every so often. He always was so approachable and genuine. Polite and unassuming. He talked incessantly of his nieces and nephew. He showed me pictures of villages he helped build.

Last summer he made it possible for me to take my wife and four boys to the top of the building and watch the Blue Angels perform.

It was sad for me to see the sign in the store this week. My life was made richer by his friendship and our world was a better place with him in it.

Mike was a real treat to spend time with. I had called on his Pioneer Square business and we moved some shipments for him.
Mike always made time for me, and we had some interesting conversations about a year ago on the economy, banking, and where the country was headed. He always made sure that I left with a couple of bars of soap too!
My thoughts and prayers are with Mike's family during the Holidays. Mike's unique personality and care for his personal relationships were gifts to us all.

As young kids our “uncle” Sabo first introduced us to comedy by bringing over a toy and then telling us it was for his local orphanage. By the time I was a young aspiring designer, I would spend hours working with him on his various soap identities, brands and packaging and learning about the personal care business in between his rants about politics and the Clintons. We will greatly miss uncle Sabo and infamous laugh.

I designed the product packages for "Milk Glow" soap and Mike was a great friend for the past 11 years. I spoke to him only a week before he passed and I was deeply saddened by the news. Thank you for the beautiful things you wrote about my friend. He sure loved and adored his family. He will be greatly missed.

Now I know why Mike didn't answer my e-mail several months ago. I found out today from a mutual friend that Mike had passed. We were lifelong friends, having lived across the hall from each other at Penn. After Penn, our paths first crossed again in Texas when I was in Air Force flight school and he was undergoing Air National Guard training. Through the years we stayed in touch--he even shared a house with me and several other crew members outside Travis AFB, CA for a time. What a hoot!
Mike had a great talent for corporate finance and was never at a loss to have a new business deal to recommend. None of us roomates or the neighbors ever got rich but it was fun to watch him in action. He was also a good friend of my wife who he nicknamed "the child bride." He attended our wedding.
Sometimes we'd go for more than two years without contact; when we finally did, we picked up the conversation easily--as if we'd left off just yesterday. That's the kind of guy Mike was.
My most recent contact was re: Seattle Soap Works when he sent us a box of all the varieties. It was great stuff--much the same as what COSTCO now sells. I always wondered if Mike was producing private label for them. Never got around to asking, darn it!
We have a boat load of memories of Mike Sabo and will always treasure his warm friendship.

That video is Mike personified... he was a true renaissance man. From all the years, I could only locate two photos. Lots of good memories if anyone is interested.

A very touching 'scrapbook' and memorial to Mike. Lisa and I worked with Mike in Alaska and visited him in Seattle as friends. A great guy who always had something important to contribute. Always bragging on his nieces and nephews, proud of his works in the Guard, and always with at least one new 'deal' or IPO in the works. Investment advisor to the entire North Slope during his Alaska years. So long, Mike.
